For the first time in the history of the Champions League two teams from the same city, Real and Atlético Madrid, will compete with each other in the final.
Both teams could leave a mark in history with a triumph in the final: with the victory at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon the “Royals” would get „La Decima“, the 10th Title in the Champions League respectively the former European Cup of Champions, which since more than ten years has been so much awaited by the whole club; after having successfully retracted for the first time since 18 years the national championship on the last weekend, a victory in the Champions League final would be for the Colchoneros the icing on the cake making the 2013/2014 season to the most successful of the club’ history.
Therefore, both teams go with great ambitions into the Champions League final and are accompanied in each case by tens of thousands of their supporters in the not too far distant from Madrid Lisbon. Although after winning the championship the momentum probably speaks more for the Rojiblancos, the bookmakers of Rivalo yet see the white ballet at a rate of 1.90 as a favorite. In case of a draw Rivalo offers an odd of 3,50, a victory of Atletico offers an odd of 4,30 (All the odds quoted refer to the result after the regular time).
At the first sight perhaps somewhat surprising odds are based mainly on the fact that the team of Diego Simeone most likely will not end up with the strongest team in the Champion League final. As ill luck would have it, two very important guarantors of success in the current season, top striker Diego Costa and captain Arda Turan, have injured themselves at the Showdown in Barcelona.
While at least before the entry of Diego Costa – according to the last information Adra Turan will probably be able to run into – at the Estadio da Luz there is a big question mark, the team of Carlo Anchelotti should probably go into the most important game for the Club since a long time, except for the suspended Xabi Alonso, with the strongest team.
Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, after he was spared in the last championship game due to a minor injury, already reported fit for the final, and also for most recently questionable participation of the defender Pepe the doctors of the medical department of Real Madrid meanwhile gave a “green light”. Not yet confirmed, however, is the commitment of recently also battered Karim Benzema. But unlike Diego Costa, it is quite likely that the Frenchman, as Arda Turan, should at least be able to seat on the bench. Even if a probable drop out of Diego Costa undoubtedly would be a disadvantage for Atlético, the players of Diego Simeone have already shown in Barcelona, that even without their best goal scorer they can compete against strong opponents and score goals.
With which eleven players will both Madrid teams now go into the final, most of the experts expect anything from watch and wait to well thought-over strategy and therefore very exciting and tight game. So both coaches are considered to be distinctive strategy foxes, and both coaches as well as players know their counterparts in and out. Due to the fact that for the first time two teams from the same city will compete with each other in the Champions League final, a very emotional duel with a corresponding explosiveness can be very much expected.
